After finding out her mother was dying of cancer, a Connecticut woman planned her wedding in just 24 hours with the help of staff at the Yale New Haven hospital, the New York Daily News reported.
Aly Femia had originally planned to wed her fiancé, Anthony, in September 2015. But when her mother, Mary Quinn, was diagnosed with incurable lung cancer that had spread to her brain, she decided to change her plans.
Since Femia’s father passed away 16 years ago, she said it was very important to her that her mother be present on her wedding day. But when Femia consulted doctors at Yale New Haven, they advised she have the wedding ‘tomorrow’ if she wanted her mother to be able to attend.
So with the help of hospital staff, Femia quickly bought a wedding dress and obtained a marriage certificate from New Haven City Hall. Then, on Jan. 29, Femia got married in the hospital, as her mother and staff members watched.
“The hospital was INCREDIBLE! They made my wedding possible,” Femia told Buzzfeed. “My favorite part of the day was having my mom see me in my wedding dress wearing a string of her pearls, and seeing her smile.”
